# Forecasted dates and durations

Starting release 8.2, a Work-Relay user is able to use forecasted durations and dates for Steps that do not have an expected [duration](/processes/process-steps/process-step-settings/time.md) configured. This allows the user to calculate due dates and set up due date handlers, [reminders](/processes/process-steps/process-step-settings/reminders.md), and [escalations](/processes/process-steps/process-step-settings/escalations.md) based on a realistic timeframe (according to data indicating performance of the Step, historically).
If a step is configured without an expected duration, when the user configures a due date handler or reminder, then the "Forecasted Duration" value is used to calculate the due date or reminder time.
Forecasted duration and date for each step are calculated by the system automatically, based on actual durations of the same step completed in other instances of the same process. Thus, the more instances of completed steps, the more accurate forecast will be.
A "Forecasted Duration" value for a step is displayed in the following places:
* The [General tab](/functional/process-progress-component/progress-component-tabs/general.md) of a Step in the Progress component and the [details popover](https://w-r.screenstepslive.com/s/12930/m/64199/l/1485339-progress-component-overview#progress-bar) of a Step in the Progress component:
* An active step tooltip in the [Instances list](/processes/working-with-processes/process-details-page.md#records-subtab):
* The [Process Step Metrics](/processes/working-with-processes/totals-process-statistics/process-step-metrics.md) chart in the Totals tab of a Process:
* The [Step Statistics](/processes/working-with-processes/totals-process-statistics.md) widget in Step info in the Totals tab of a Process:
* An opened step details on the [Task Manager](/functional/dashboards/task-manager-dashboard.md) Dashboard Kanban layout:
