# Integrating external systems into processes

## Step assignment

A step can be assigned to an external system. When it is ready, it can signal the Work-Relay process to continue via:

* a database update
* a web service
* the Work-Relay API

## Task generation

Tasks can be generated by external systems and have them appear in the Work-Relay task manager. These tasks may be simple tasks created on the fly, or may be predefined tasks that are triggered by the external system.
